Overlook Park
Overlook Park is one of Canyon Lake’s most popular waterfront destinations, offering stunning panoramic views of the lake, swimming areas, shoreline fishing, and easy access for kayaking and paddleboarding. Located near Canyon Lake Dam, the park features open green spaces, picnic areas, and scenic overlooks where visitors can enjoy some of the best lake views in the Texas Hill Country.
Visitors should be aware that access to the water from Overlook Park requires navigating a fairly steep trail and uneven terrain. While the views and lake access are well worth the effort, the route may be challenging for individuals with limited mobility, those who have difficulty walking on inclines, or anyone requiring wheelchair-accessible access to the shoreline.
Admission to Overlook Park is free, making it one of the most popular public access points on Canyon Lake. During weekends, holidays, and peak summer months, parking areas can fill quickly, and visitors may need to wait for a parking space or walk a longer distance from available parking areas to reach the park and shoreline.

One of the highlights of Overlook Park is the expansive floodplain near the Canyon Lake Dam, where visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the river valley and surrounding Texas Hill Country landscape. Restrooms are conveniently located near the main parking area at the top of the park before beginning the hike down to the shoreline.
For those making the trek to the water, the shoreline offers a variety of experiences. To the left, large limestone cliffs and rock formations provide opportunities for climbing, exploring, and jumping into deeper water where conditions allow. To the right, visitors will find a more gradual, family-friendly shoreline with rocky beach areas that are well-suited for wading, swimming, relaxing by the water, and launching kayaks or paddleboards.
